Cinquans

Description: this week we have been learning about cinquans. A Cinquan is a poem were the first line has 2 syllables  The second line has 4 syllables and have to be describing words. The third line has 6 syllables and has to end in an ing. the 4th line has 8 syllables and pretty much has to be a rapping up line and the last line has to have 2 syllables and says what the Peom is about. Here is my Cinquan:

My Life

Fast pace
High speed chase
Walking running jogging
There's one load fire
Hunting

Feedback/feedforward: I reckon you stuck to the guidelines really well. But next time you could use some punctation. #Jaiden

Inquiry

Description: This term we have been doing inquiry. We do it on Thursdays. At the start of the term we went around all the inquiry groups. We then chose our favourite. I chose impact prodjejs because I had enough an idea that I knew I could turn into something big. I am setting up a science experiment pack for the jouniours. I need to make it fun but they also need to learn stuff.

Helping future generations: My thing will help people in the future under stand that science is fun but it will teach the about the things my experiments are about.

I am thinking outside the box by doing crazy experiments. Like dancing raisins.

What made me choose this inquiry?
I am passionate about science and teaching that science is work and fun.

How will my inquiry impact the future?
My inquiry will impact the future by teaching kids about chemicals like CO2, H2O and O.

Did I achieve my goal?
I achieved my goal because I have now set up a science pack for the jouniours that teachs them a range of things.

How did I show Agency, creativity and excellence?

I am being creative because I could have made the experiments boring but I made them snappy and exiting. I showed agency by finishing my project. I showed exelence by making my pages readable

Free Verse Poetry

Up.
Up.
I am nervous, Butterflies bumping around in my tummy.
Clunk.
Clunk.
 Hushhhhh.
 It stops. A deafening silence.
Is there something wrong? Are we in trouble? Do I need to panic?
I look down.
People moving about like tiny ants.
I am nervous, palms are getting sweaty
Whooshhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Round and round.
Upside down
loop da loop
Round and round.
My cheeks get pushed back, but it's only the wind.
Someone spewed, It smelt disgusting
It's like I could almost taste it
Hushhhhh
It slows down.
It's over.
Its a relief!
I'm still alive!
I survived!
But I get straight back in the line to have another go....

Evaluation:
1. I think I did well with the five senses because I used all of them. The most powerful one I used was feeling the wind against my face.

2.I think I used language features wisely because most of the language features I used are the ones that Troy said to use but I could use alliteration next time.

3. Next time I could use more language features because I used quite a few but not alliteration.

Self Directed

I think I am a Self Directed learner because I allways get stuff done on time and I allways smart goals that help grow my growth mindset.

The goal that I am currently working on is giving good feedback/feedforward because mine are usually kind of helpful but I want to make in really helpful

The things I need to do to achieve this goal are being more detailed in feedback and eshpeshally  feedforward.

Dicovery time

Today for discovery I play a game that James and Logan created

I showed creativity by helping James and Logan create some new rules.

I showed agency when  the new rules diddent work I got advice from other players rather than just Logan and James.

I showed exelence by winning

Next week for discovery time I will make a Maison in Minecraft.

Pre reading activity

  1. Title - the title of This Land We Call Home sounded weird because it's there home land and I wonder were it is and I wonder why its this land we call home rather than the land we call home.

Cover Design - This Land We Call Home look take a title of war with Japan because the cherry blossoms are Japan's nation signiture.

Blurb - It sounds spooky and I have played the Pearl harbor bombings on ps2 and it was cool and I want to find out what the implications on the world were.

  1. Predictions I think that some Japanese people are living in California when world war 2 kicked off and the americans want the Japanese people out of America incase they were bombers.

I did a wrap of the news with Jett here is my wrap up:

ET Reo Portfolio Sample

In ET Reo we have been learning body parts in Moari. You could chose to do a puppet pal, poster, music vid or an iMovie. I chose year 2s for my audience. You could chose to go in a buddy or by your self. I chose to go in a buddy with Louis. Here is my iMovie:

Big idea: we did heaps of stuff to help us remember the body parts. We learnt the Hokey Cokey in Maori, we also did a comition in groups of three. The comp was who could write the most body parts down. I worked with Jaiden and Mitch.

Feedback/feedforward: I think you did well at hooking your audience  and using them in the movie. Next time you could work on your camera angles/view. #Jaiden

Evaluation: I think I did well at my pronaucation but I should speck in a clearer voice.

Maths Portfolio Sample

Description: in maths we have been working with troy. We have been focusing on mutipling and dividing decimals. When wim not working with troy i am doing work from my NZCM stage 7 book. In stage 7 I have been focusing on propositional ajusment. My go to strategy would be known facts.

Image:

Big Idea: my goal is to use the most effective stratigy for the question I get.

in the second question I did known facts and splitting. I split 176 into 160 &16 when I work out that 5x32 = 160 and you can't divide 16 by 32 so you will need 6 buses because you can't have half a bus or leave 16 people behind.

The first strategy I  used known facts. I went 30x5= 150 & 2x5=10 then I added 10+150 witch equals 160 so you need another bus so you don't leave anyone behind. So you get 6 buses.

In the third picture I used kf. I went 15x13=195 then I went 13x.10=1.30 then I - 1.30 off and got 193.70. Sorry I got the 2.30 wrong it was 1.30.

In the fourth picture I used PVP. I split the 14.90 into 14 and 90 and went 14x13 which equals 182 & 90x13=1170 but then you have to put the decimal back in so you have 11.70. Then you add 182 & 11.70 which gives you an answer of 193.70. Comment below if you got a different answer on any of the questions what it was and how you got it.

Feedback/feedforward: I think you have done well getting two strategies for two questions quickly to. just You can name your strategies so it is easier. By Maraki

Evaluation: I reckon I did well on using the most effective stratigy because I got quick effective answers on most of them but next time I will try to use the best stratigy on all of the questions.

Pop art portfolio sample

Description: every Thursday we do pop art with Kate. Pop art as art were you split your page into quarters and do the same picture in each quarter then paint it different bright poppy colours. The most famous pop art maker is andy worhol.

Big Idea: We used a stencil to creat our shape the we painted the shape contrasting colours like above.

Feedback: yor art is really good and it has improved since last time you did art also because it is neater.
Feedforward: you could work a bit more on staying inside the lines and not going over coulers with the same couler.

Evaluation: I think I did well because it was way neater but I could use brighter colours.

Monday 24 August 2015

Writing portfolio sample

Description: my goal in writing is I have ideas about what to write. I chose this goal because I wasn't very good at it. This was our inspiration for our writing:

Trapped

The cat called Johnson glanced around furiously looking for something, anything to help him escape. The continuous taunts of the bird named Billy was mucking up his brain, big time. The mischievous bird had trapped him 3 days ago.

He was in the lounge next to the big glass window searching, from behind the metal bars. He spotted a big black dog outside. The exact same dog he plays with, Bob. He knew Bob would rescue him if he saw him. He had to signal him some how without Billy knowing. Then he had a brain wave. The dog and cat distress call. Billy wouldn't know the distress call. Hannnnnnnnnn  hannnnnnnnn hannnnnnnnnn Johnson cried with his mouth closed. Bob ears pricked up when he heard the call. He gazed around and spotted Billy. Bob went to get his friends Ryan the Rottweiler and  Penelope the Pit Bull to rescue Billy. Lets go and attack. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Woof woof squawk squawk. Billy flew away as fast as he could. Freedoooom screeched Johnson. I'm free I'm free I'm free. They lived happily ever after until...

Big idea: we used prompts like hear feel and see to describe what was happening.  We did a quick brain storm about a problem and a resolution.

Feedback/feedforward: I reckon you could structure your story better so when your audience reads it they can understand better. I think you did well at adding hooking words at the start and descriptive words.
#Jaiden

Evaluation: I think I have acheved my goal because as soon as looked at the picture I hade an idea. My next step would be changing my idea more often.

Ora Life

ODescription: every Friday we work on our garments for production. Our main idea is ora life but some of the other thing we got to do are up cycling and wearable art.Up Cycling is were you give something old and used a new life.   We hade three different themes to chose from they were heros and villains, elements and out of Africa. I am in heros and villains. I chose hero and villains because straight away I had an idea. Here is what I hope my garment will look like.

Images:

So far I have made my fabric smock and my paper mashay mask. This afternoon I am going to paint my mask white and start making feathers

1) The materials that I used to create my garment were: felt fabric, old pillow case, paper mashay and paper cone.

2) The most challenging thing about production for me was: getting my garment done on time because  the head peace.

3) One way I demonstrated a growth mindset during production was: when my body peace failed I kept on going and adopted a new strategy.

4) Something I am really proud of about production was: my head peace because it came out exactly how I wanted it to.

5) Our school vision is to create agency, creativity and excellence. I showed this by: bending my wing to make myself look like an old veteran. Creativity.

Feedback/feedforward: next time you could make your wings more clear that there wings. I like how you add lots of colour.

Evaluation: I like my garment because i like a book about a old hero I represented this by making my bird old like him.

Story Wheel

I read a story on kiwi kids new about a packet of Jellybeans with disgusting flavours. Some were pepper and the ones above.

Reading portfolio sample

Description: in reading we have been doing tic-tac-toe activities. They are a bunch of activities that help with your goal ether summarising or questioning. I chose summarising. This is the tic tac toe I chose. Summarising is when you make a story shorter but keep all the main points. First I had to read the article and note take. After that you had to write a little story with your main words.

Bionic Eye

  • Ryan Flynn got the world's first bionic eye. He wears special glasses that have a little camera in them. It sends video images as electrical pulses to electrodes Implanted in the back of his eye. The main surgeon is Professor Paulo Stanga. I reckon this could fix blindness in the world but each bionic eye costs heaps of money. The other problem would be that it would take ages for the surgeons to complete the surgery.

Big idea: The learning involved in this activity is learning to summarise. I learnt that you have to read it more than once to be able to summarise it.

Feedback/Feedforward: I like how you explained a lot in your piece, but next time make your summary shorter. #Tane

Evaluation:I think I did well because I used all the main points but next time I will try to make my summarise a bit shorter.

The Digestive System

DESCRIPTION: We have made a short movie to share what we have learnt about digestion this term. I contains true and fun facts. We learnt about stomach acid, saliva and your intestines.

Success Criteria
Our movie has:
*lots of interesting details about digestion that our audience won’t know
*clear explanations about each stage of the digestion process (talking clearly and loudly, using specific science vocabulary)
*clear images
*humour/interesting detail to keep the audience engaged

IMAGE: Here is our group’s video

BIG IDEA: Digestion is all about breaking food down into tiny bits so it is small enough to travel around in your blood to feed your body and give it energy. The small intestine sucks out the nutrince and sends it around your body. The large intestine dry's out the remaining food.

Feedback/Feedforward: Feedford I think you need to keep the camera stil.feedbackl and I think Jett did really well on speaking clear.#Eli

Evaluation: I think we did well because our movie has lots of interesting details about digestion that our audience won’t know. But next time we need to include more funny facts.

Writing

Once there was a wimpy wallaby living in a rusty tin shed in San Francisco . The tin shed was as old as the Great Wall of China which is 2714 years old. The tin shed smelt like a rotten egg.The Wallaby had Brown fur with a black dot above his left eye. He was called Willy the Wallaby. It was steaming  in San Francisco. Every Morning the willy would get up and eat his worms in front of the Dream Life sign. It was the most valuable house in the world, It was worth over $10 000 000.50.

Then he saw a house that looked exactly the same across the street. He thought Yippy. Then he set foot to go cross the road. But there was one little problem, there were motorised vehicles.
He thought and thought and thought some more but finally he had a plan.

There were big cracks in the road. So he walked 2m and then saw a car coming so he leapt straight into a crack.  But when he tried to get out he couldn't. He was 10 cm away. Then his tail got ran over. Then so randomly a wallaby popped out of the tail and went and lived in that house. So the other wallaby tried to get out and then after 10 try's he popped out. He tried over and over again to grow another tail but instead he grew another wallaby. He thought to himself OMG!
He gave up trying to walk so The new Wallaby (Bobby Jones) started dragging him everywhere.

The End

Two Stars and a Wish

My 1st star is: I think I do well at responding to feedback/feedforward because I allways fix my work to make it how the feedback/feedforward says. An example of when I did this was my maths post because I made my writing neater.

My 2nd star is: I have nailed checking notices and emails because I am usually one of the first to respond to any things that the teacher send us. An example of when I do this is Monday's because I am one of the first people to put my face on a workshop.

My wish is: to get better at choosing appropriate people and spaces to work in and with because I mostly stay in a buddy with Hunter. An example of when I did this was my tic-tac-toe because we did it together rather than by ourselves.

Tuesday 16 June 2015

E T Reo

Description: on Monday afternoons we have E T Reo. In E T Reo we learn Maori lunchbox foods and how to ask if you like a food or don't like a food. We also learn Maori songs. Here is a video with me asking hunter what foods he liked and disliked.
Big Idea: for this task we had to make a video about asking if your friend if the like a specific food. First we had to learn what to say the we had to make the video. Some of the foods we learn were:
Aporo- Apple
Arani- orange
Nati nati- nuts
Hanawiti- sandwich
Taki- wrap

Feedback/Feedforward: I like how you pronounced it because it was really good. You could make you your selfs instead of cow boys. William bovey😄

Evaluation: I think I did well because I pronanced the words correctly. But I could speak faster because I got the impresipion that I was reading.

Maths Portfolio Sample

Description: This term in maths we have been doing strategies. There are three different stages stage 4,5 and 6. I'm in stage 6. Some of the stategey's we use are Rounding and Compensating and equal addition. We have been getting the questions and information from our NZCM6 book.

Big Idea: Our teachers gave us this sheet to do. For the first question I used the rounding and compensating strategy. For the second question I used the equal addition stategey. For the third question I used R&C and place value stategey's and for the final question I used place value.

Feedback/Feedforward:I like the strategys you used but next time you could make your writing a bit clearer. Ana

Evaluation: I think I did well at the equal addition strategy. But I should try to use the reversibility strategy more often because I stick with the stategey's I know and I'm comfortable with.

Sunday 7 June 2015

Writing Portfolio Sample

Descripition: In writing we have been learning about complex sentence's. My goal is to use more complex sentences in my writing because I usally use compound sentences. We watched a video about a mouse with big ears. It inspired use to write our own story about an animal with something different.

Big Idea: Complex sentences have one sentence that can stand alone then a conjunction and then a sentence that can't stand alone. For example There was a pig named Ben, he had 5 legs. The red writing is my complex sentences.

Feedback/Feedforward: Loki that writing is funny and cool i think you could put some more detail in to it. #jetty

Evaluation: I think I did well because my story is funny. But I need to use more complex sentences because I sometimes fell to lazy to do complex sentences so I just like to compound sentences.

Reading Portfolio

Description:
In reading From term 2 week 2 we have been doing tic-tac-toe activity's. In our workshop we have been doing text to text/self/world. Each week in Poutama we are expected to do 3 tic-tac-toe activity's. Two must dos and 1 can do. This week it was different because we hade no workshops and we only have one must do and one can do.

Success Criteria:
In our workshop we have been doing text to text/self/world.
-A text to self connection is when you compare text to yourself
-A text to world connection is when you compare text to real world things
-A text to text connection is when you compare stuff in one book to another book.

Make Text to text connections.
Make text to world connections.
Make text to self connections.

I could work on my goal by stopping at the end of each capter and think about some text to self connection's.

Who won the race and how?
The tortoise won because he kept on going while the rabbit had a nap.

What was the moral (or lesson that can be learned) from the story?
Determination beats speed.

Write one text to self connection you have made with the story.
When I was a year 1 I thought I had won sprints so I slowed down just before the finish but then Rico beat me.

Write one text to text connection you have made with the story.
The boy who cried wolf because they both are fables. Fables are stories with a messege

Feedback/Feedforward: Good job Loki I think you did really well I think you need to work on making more of a connection, but that was all good. #Jetty-boom-boom AKA Jett

Evaluation: I think I am good at making text to text connections but I could work on text to world connections because I struggle to find things in the world that relate to the text I read.

  • Push hard off outside foot and go forwards to attack pass
  • Quick small feet, stay on balls of feet
  • Arms within confines of body
  • Take feet to ball
  • Land with a SBP
Intercepting:
  • Body angled to see player and ball
  • Anticipate pass and player movement
Restrictive Marking:
  • Meet player as they start towards the ball/where they want to go
  • stay close to the attacking player
  • Head and eyes up, arms close to body to avoid obstruction/contact
  • Angle body so attacking player is ‘pushed’ away from where he/she wants to go
  • 0.9m from ball carrier

Evaluation:I think I did well because I landed in a stable positionm. But I could work on having my body angled to see both the player and the ball

Feedback/feedforward: good job Loki you landed good but you could work on catching the ball when you intercept. Thomas.

Monday 23 March 2015

Story Telling

Purpose: create a story to share orally
Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.

Big Idea:
My morale of my story is that smart beats the strength. I am using a porcupine and a lion to tell that story

Evaluation: I don't like my story because it doesn't have humor or fun. I like how it has a good lesson.

Feedback: I like how you made up a story in your own way
Feedforward:you could improve on saying it quicker

Sunday 22 March 2015

Translation

 Description:

We have been learning about transformation.  We have specifically learnt that...

  • translation is when an object slides in any direction;

  • rotation is when an object is turned around a central point;

  • reflection is when an object is flipped and has a line of symmetry.

Our challenge was to design a car badge that contained at least one of these aspects of transformation.

Big Idea:
Feedback/feedforward: Lachie I think you did really well at explaining your item you got a lot of words in your badge. Feedforward you could work on trying to make them the Same size. #Maraki

Evaluation:
I like how my badge represents me with the guns but I need to make the guns the same size because I was rushing. If I did it again I'd ether do an animal or guns again but make them the same size.

Swimming SMART Goals

 Description:
The last few weeks we have been swimming in the school pool. We are practicing swimming for swimming sports. Swimming sport's is a big school swimming event.

Big idea:
We have been setting SMART goal's about swimming.

My goal's are:
To get 1st in breastroke, backstroke and freestyle
Our pool
Start like a arrow because I start like a worm.
Keep my butt still because I wiggle it while I swim and go of coarse.

13/3/2015

Evaluation:
The only goal I didn't achieve is the one at swimming sports because I came 2nd in breaststroke.
Our pool
I know I've achived my goal because now I start as straight as a arrow
I know I'v also achived this goal because now I go straight rather than veer off course.

I think connor could of faced you when he was speaking.
